2018 Swimathon adds environmental twist

In an innovative twist on this traditional fundraiser, the Dainfern College Swimathon added plastic waste to the event to raise awareness of the dangers of plastic pollution in our oceans.

In line with the Dainfern College Foundation's aim to 'multiply our impact on the world around us', Foundation Manager Tracey Blyth, together with the student head of Environmental Affairs, Stella Rutsito, had the High School collect as many plastic bottles as possible. These were then thrown into the pool before the Grade 4-7 pupils swam, to raise awareness of all the plastic in our oceans that our sealife has to swim through.

All the Grade 2-7 pupils swam as many lengths as they could in each 20-minute slot and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The High School were then tasked with cleaning up the pool afterwards.

Congratulations to our Foundation for adding the environmental element and huge thanks to the amazing Parents' Association for organising this wonderful event. #Innovation #Environmentalism
