The Grade 1s put their swimming skills on display

On a sunny Friday morning, the Grade 1s adjusted their swimming caps and goggles, before leaping into the pool to show off the skills they gained over their year at school. "It started with them doing a jump into the big pool and then a cannon ball jump, before they showed their parents how they dive into the pool. While the grade 0s swim in the little training pool, the Grade 1s are taught to swim in the "big pool"," explains Monique Anderson, Grade 1 teacher and head of grade.

Parents cheered while the Grade 1s swam a length - with or without a colorful pool noodle. The gala ended off with a fin race, in which three children held onto a noodle and then swam across the pool as a team. Grade 1s find the big pool quite intimidating and find swimming a length challenging, but they all managed to swim a length! We were all super proud of them," says Mrs Anderson.

At the beginning of the year, some our Grade 1s could barely swim - and now they're swimming whole lengths of the pool (with big smiles on their faces!). While the gala wasn't competitive, it was a wonderful opportunity for the children to have fun and give their parents a good idea of what they can do!
