Dainfern College mourns Mr Tom Bourquin

Mr Tom Bourquin, the founding headmaster of Dainfern College, sadly passed away on Saturday 13 October.

Mr Bourquin headed up our brand new College from 1997 to 1999; he took the seed of Dainfern College, planted, watered, nurtured and loved it and steered the College on the right course to grow into the leading institution it is today.

Prior to Dainfern College, Tom enjoyed a celebrated career as an educational leader in the public school system, teaching at Sandringham High School and serving as Deputy Headmaster at Sandown High School. Tom was a former Regional Director in the ISASA Central Region. Within ISASA schools, he was known for giving quiet, thoughtful advice to School Heads. An emblematic characteristic of Tom was his fearlessness in defending sound principles.

Tom brought a wealth of educational experience to his role as Regional Director. He was a champion of the needs of low-fee independent schools and appreciated their contribution to quality education in our country. He greatly admired their achievements, considering their limited resources, which made the receipt of subsidy payments due to them a necessity.

He will always be remembered for his warmth, wisdom, compassion, integrity, kindness, wonderful sense of humour and his infectious laugh. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family in this time of sorrow and hope they find comfort in knowing that his memory will forever live on at Dainfern College.
