New Red Blazer awards

The Red Blazer is the premier award at Dainfern College and recognises students who are true all-rounders. To be eligible, students must achieve full colours in three of the following: Academics, Culture, Leadership, Service and Sport. The Red Blazer recognises students who have been determined to achieve to the best of their ability throughout their high school career. On Thursday 18 September we were delighted to be able to recognise no less than seven such students at the High School Leadership Assembly – a remarkable achievement.

These are the citations read for each student for this prestigious award:

Isabella Casilli

1 Isabella-140Isabella has demonstrated outstanding diligence and dedication to academic achievement and earned Honours in Academics in 2013. She received an Honours Re-award for Academics this morning as one of the College’s top academic achievers.

Isabella is a highly talented dancer and represented South Africa for Dance in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. In addition, she has shown wholehearted commitment to the InterHouse and InterHigh Dance competitions and over the years has received several awards in recognition of excellence in both dance performance and choreography. Isabella was awarded Honours in Performing Arts in 2013 as a top dancer at Dainfern College.

Isabella is also a highly talented singer and received Full Colours in Music in 2013 as one of the College’s top performers. Her outstanding contribution to the cultural arts at Dainfern College led to the award of Cultural Honours in 2013. She went on to receive Honours in Music this year in recognition of achieving a Distinction in Grade 8 for Singing.

Today Isabella’s achievement in the Leadership sphere was celebrated with the award of Honours in Leadership in recognition of the dedication, innovation and excellence shown in her Leadership portfolio of Head of Culture.

Isabella has consistently demonstrated wholehearted commitment to Dainfern College throughout High School. An enthusiastic approach to life and the willingness to be of service to the College in all areas make her the finest example of the values we strive to uphold at our school.

Sarah Forbes

2 Sarah-140Sarah is a skilled musician and received Full Colours for Music in 2013 in recognition of her proficiency on the flute as both a solo performer and a member of the College Orchestra. She achieved Honours in Music this year as a top musician at Dainfern College after passing Grade 8 for flute.

Sarah is also a talented dancer and was awarded Full Colours in Performing Arts last year in recognition of the wholehearted commitment and ability shown in College Dance competitions.

Sarah has also excelled on the sports field, achieving Full Colours for Hockey earlier this year for representing the school with skill and commitment.

Today Sarah’s achievement in the Leadership sphere was celebrated with the award of Full Colours in Leadership in recognition of the loyalty, grace and enthusiasm brought to the Leadership portfolio of Head of School.

Sarah has consistently demonstrated wholehearted commitment to Dainfern College throughout High School. An enthusiastic approach to life and the willingness to be of service to the College in all areas make this student the finest example of the values we strive to uphold at our school.

Lunako Munyai

3 Lunako-140Lunako is a talented athlete and has excelled over the years in various track events. She was awarded Full Colours for Athletics for outstanding achievement on the athletics field in 2013.

Lunako’s achievement as a talented guitarist was celebrated with the award of Full Colours in Music in 2013 in recognition of the proficiency and excellence that make her one of our top College performers.

Lunako is also a very talented dancer and has shown wholehearted commitment to the College Dance competitions, receiving several awards in recognition of excellence in dance performance. She was awarded Honours in Performing Arts in 2013 as a top dancer at Dainfern College.

Today Lunako’s achievement in the Leadership sphere was celebrated with the award of Full Colours in Leadership in recognition of the calm proficiency, organisation and commitment shown in the Leadership portfolio of Head of House.

Lunako has consistently demonstrated wholehearted commitment to Dainfern College throughout High School. An enthusiastic approach to life and the willingness to be of service to the College in all areas make Lunako the finest example of the values we strive to uphold at our school.

Thabang Ndlovu

4 Thabang-140Thabang has demonstrated consistent diligence and commitment to academic achievement and earned Full Colours in Academics in 2013. He received Honours for Academics this morning as one of the College’s top academic achievers.

Thabang is fully committed to helping others and improving the lives of those less fortunate. His wholehearted commitment and dedication to Outreach was recognised with the nomination for Lead SA Hero in January this year and the award of Full Colours for Outreach last term.

Today Thabang’s achievement in the Leadership sphere was celebrated with the award of Full Colours in Leadership in recognition of the steadfast commitment and dedication shown in the Leadership portfolio of Head of Outreach.

Thabang has consistently demonstrated wholehearted commitment to Dainfern College throughout High School. An enthusiastic approach to life and the willingness to be of service to the College in all areas make Thabang the finest example of the values we strive to uphold at our school.

We congratulate Thabang Ndlovu on his exceptional achievements and ask him to come forward and receive his Red Blazer.

Sarah-Olivia Nunn

5 Sarah-Olivia-140Sarah-Olivia has demonstrated consistent diligence and commitment to academic achievement and earned Honours in Academics in 2013. She received an Honours Re-award for Academics this morning as one of the College’s top academic achievers.

Sarah-Olivia is committed to making the world a better place and has been instrumental in raising the profile of environmental issues at the College. Her concern for and dedication to those less fortunate was recognised with the award of Full Colours for Outreach earlier this year.

Today Sarah-Olivia’s achievement in the Leadership sphere was celebrated with the award of Full Colours in Leadership in recognition of the commitment, organisation and dedication shown in the Leadership portfolio of Head of Environmental Affairs.

Sarah-Olivia has consistently demonstrated wholehearted commitment to Dainfern College throughout High School. An enthusiastic approach to life and the willingness to be of service to the College in all areas make her the finest example of the values we strive to uphold at our school.

We congratulate Sarah-Olivia Nunn on her exceptional achievements and ask her to come forward and receive her Red Blazer.

Stephen Pettitt

6 Stephen-140Stephen is a highly talented musician and has performed on the drum kit as a soloist, a member of the College Orchestra and the mainstay of several College bands. In recognition of the skill, proficiency and excellence that make him one of our top College musicians, Stephen received Full Colours for Music in 2013. He then achieved Honours in Music this year after passing Grade 8 with Distinction.

Stephen has also excelled in the Performing Arts and has had key roles in House plays, InterHouse Dance and High School major productions. Stephen also represented the College at the Interschools FEDA Festival, winning an award for Best Cameo performance. He was awarded Full Colours in Performing Arts in 2013 as one of the College’s top performers.

Stephen has shown a consistent diligence and dedication to Academic achievement throughout High School and this morning he earned Full Colours for Academics.

Today Stephen’s achievement in the Leadership sphere was celebrated with the award of Full Colours in Leadership in recognition of the passionate dedication, commitment and excellence shown in his Leadership portfolio of Head of House.

Stephen has consistently demonstrated wholehearted commitment to Dainfern College throughout High School. An enthusiastic approach to life and the willingness to be of service to the College in all areas make Stephen the finest example of the values we strive to uphold at our school.

Bradley van der Merwe

7 Bradley-140Bradley excels at sport and has represented the College with distinction in several codes. He achieved a white scroll for Provincial selection for Biathle in 2011. Dedication and the achievement of excellence on the athletics track led to his achievement of Honours in Athletics in 2013. This year Bradley received Full Colours for Rugby for skill and commitment. The level of excellence, proficiency and sportsmanship he has demonstrated across all spheres of sport at the College was recognised with the award of Sports Honours this year.

Bradley is a committed musician and received Full Colours for Music in 2013 in recognition of his proficiency on the violin as a solo performer, as the leader of the College Orchestra and as a member of the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra.

Bradley has shown a steadfast diligence and dedication to Academic achievement throughout High School and today earned Full Colours for Academics.

Bradley has consistently demonstrated wholehearted commitment to Dainfern College throughout High School. An enthusiastic approach to life and the willingness to be of service to the College in all areas make him the finest example of the values we strive to uphold at our school.
