Students celebrate goodness on Cape Vidal tour

The Cape Vidal Tour forms part of the College’s Round Square activities, allowing the students to learn more about environmentalism, adventure, leadership and service (these are some of the Round Square IDEALS). As such, the students visited the Reserve, the nearby Estuary and the Mission Rocks to learn more about the local flaura and fauna.

They also served the local community, by donating clothing items to a local orphanage. They enjoyed day trips to the uShaka Marine World, and also bicycle rides to Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The students said they enjoyed learning so much about the area, and really valued getting to know their peers better. Grade 11 student, Zane Mancer, said they all became good friends regardless of their grade at school, and learned to understand each other better as a result. Grade 12 student, Maria Nengwenani added that the trip taught her to be sensitive to others, and to respect differences.

Sonia Claassen, Dainfern College head of Round Square and a Life Orientation teacher, stated that the trip was a great way to close off a busy second term at school. She can’t wait to add more community service and leadership elements to the tour in 2019.
